Abstract
This study attempts to identify the order of acquisition of the following subordinate conjunctions -kara, -node, -kedo, -noni, -te, and -nagara. It also examines whether the linguistic hierarchy of subordinate clauses can explain the acquisition order found in the three-year interview data by six learners of Japanese. The results showed that -kara, -kedo, and -te are acquired before -nagara, -node, and -noni, which can be explained by the linguistic hierarchy. However, considerable individual differences are found as well, suggesting that the difference in learning environment and input may have contributed the variation in the order.
