Separate Tables (1954) by T. Rattigan consists of two one-act plays, Table by the Window and Table Number Seven. Both plays are set in the same hotel with almost the same characters. The second play that we discuss here makes a perfect contrast to the first, and chiefly concerns a dowdy young spinster, Sibyl, and a bogus Major Pollock, two social misfits.
The aim of this essay is to examine how they lonely people suffer profound humiliation and with the help of others win back their self - respect in the end, and also examine the theme and dramatic technique of the play. |
