Abstract
This report is a study of the early commercial capital of the Nobuto Family which developed in "Zai-machi Fuchu-ichi" in Fukuyama-Han in the latter half of the early modern period. Considering the accumulation base and stages of Nobuto's early commercial capital from the side of the business dealing and money lending capital, we may conclude as follows.

From the Horeki period (1751-1763) to the first year of Bunko (1804-1807) they mainly dealt with rice and cotton, etc., and ran moneylending for influential merchants. Then between the first year of Bunko and the first year of Bunsei (1818-1822) they commenced to run moneylending for the feudal lord. From the Tempo Era (1830-1844) their capital of moneylending increased and their total capital increased considerably, but their dealing capital decreased. This decrease of the dealing capital was caused by the fluctuations of the market structure, and after this they ran moneylending capital mainly.

In the Meiji Restoration period (1860-1870) the moneylending capital bagan to brend down and the growth of the total capital stagnated. Moreover, the total capital began to decrease. This is because they didn't moneylend to the small-scale peasants and the small-scale merchants for accumulating the capital, but limited the moneylending to their branch families and influential merchants. Here we can find the unstability of the business of Nobuto in the closing years of the Tokugawa regime. Against this background there seems to have been the deadlock of the structure of Zaimachi.
