Abstract
We have measured the spin-resolved 3p and 3s core-level photoemission spectra of ferromagnetic Ni in the whole region of the main peak and the satellites with reliable statistics. The observed spin-polarization spectrum for the 3p core excitation has revealed an overestimation of the 3p-3d interaction in a recent theoretical calculation. It is found that the 3s photoemission spectrum is strongly modified by the hybridization between the 3s3d9 and 3s3d10 states and the spin polarization results from the exchange interaction between the 3s and 3d electrons in the 3s3d9 component.
