A Discourse-Dialectological Study on the Quote Speech

In this paper we try to consider the discourse implied the quote speech. This paper will take material in the Minamikasuya dialect society in Aichi prefecture of Japan. Results of this research are as follows. On the sentence stage (1)The " ～tete" form of the quote speech means a quotation speech and the " ～soite" means the explaining speech. (2)The first person of the grammer mostly does not appear before the " ～soite". (3)At the most of the cases they are easily situated at the end of the sentences as the marker of the quote ending. (4) Other expressions without those are as follows. ～teyuu, ～teya, ～te, ～sote, ～so. On the discourse stage (5) Next 4 distinctive features are remarkable on the " ～tete" form of the quote speech. ○the first departure in character ○on restriction ○holding theme in common ○natural reception. Next 4 remarkable characters also are seen on the " ～soite" form of the quote speech. ○particular, emphasise, positiveness ○humble oneself, uprightness ○unexpected, excitement ○cross-examination, confirmation of the fact, paying attention.
