Abstract |
Newly independent multilingual countries of Asia formulated language policies because of rapid modernization; however, there has been no clear policy in Papua New Guinea. The most popular lan-guage in Papua New Guinea, Tok Pisin, is experiencing difficulties in improving its expressive capacitydue to Anglicization. This study investigated the present characteristics of Anglicization in Tok Pisinwords. Data were collected from Wantok, the Tok Pisin newspaper. The results show that words bor-rowed from English have increased and these words interfere with the grammar of Tok Pisin, which hasdecreased the expressive capacity of the language.
