This paper is a review of psychological studies on "relatedness" and some considerations on the importance of relatedness for identity development in adulthood.
The aspect of relatedness of the self has been considerd less important for human development, in comparison with the aspect of separation-individuation of the self. However, according to the recent studies, it is suggested that both of these aspects are equally important for identity development theoretically and empirically. Besides, in daily life situations, a lot of conflicts between personal identity and related-identity are experienced especially by women. The importance and necessity to establish the total vision is suggested for integration of achievement of personal identity and support to significant others' identity.
