Abstract
This sludy investigated the influences of AlDS edueation on maladaptive coplngs for HIV inftction, using cognitive factors based on protection motivation theory and collective protection motivation model as mediating variables. One hundred and ninely-seven uiversity students answered a questionnaire measuring AlDS education received in the past, cognitive factors, and maladaptive copings for HIV inftetion. Types of AlDS education measured were basic education, education for HIV inftction and proteclion, and education for living with PWIVA. Types of maladaptive copings for HIV inftction measured were avoidance, fatalism, wishful thinking, and faith. Results showed that, probability of occurrence, self efficacy (ability to act), and responsibility decreased maladaptive copings for HIV inftction. On the other hand, cost and reward increased maladaptive copings for HIV inftction.
