Hitherto, research on foreign capital enterprises' direct investment in Japan has focused on aspects such as correction of imbalance between domestic and overseas direct investment, controversies concerning correction of trade imbalances trough import promotion, and the introduction of outstanding overseas management resources.
This paper reviews the current state of foreign capital enterprises' direct investment in Japan, and by analyzing the factors that make such enterprises decide to invest directly overseas, and the factors that deter them from doing so, considers methodologies for attracting foreign capital enterprises to regional cities.
