The irrigation ponds in Hiroshima prefecture reach about 21,000 which is the second large number in the whole country. A quarter of irrigation ponds in Hiroshima prefecture concentrates in the Kamo plateau, however there are few reports about on the actual conditions and the characteristics of these irrigation ponds. The purpose of this paper is to clear the statistical trends on the irrigation ponds and the irrigation system by the use of the data surveyed about irrigation ponds in Kurose town. The total number of the irrigation ponds in Kurose town are 447. These are mainly the common or the individual ponds and so small size. The average size of an irrigation pond is 3,330m3. The average area of beneficiary is 6.94ha and the average number of beneficiary are about 14. The irrigation group in Kurose town keep the good conditions on the irrigation equipment. They carry out the communal work which are on the basis of the rural community. As often pointed out, the communal work of the irrigation group are playing the important role to maintain the ponds and the channels at the traditional irrigation system in the pond irrigation area. The irrigation system in Kurose town is a typical example of these tendency.
