Abstract
This study examines how 3, 4, and 5 years old play with novel toys, "Patica" and "Sasara", by observing their play. As a result, the children of 3 years tended to get the information about the novel toys from their teachers and their friends before touching the toys. They shook "Patica" and let their dolls listen to the sounds. Also they tried to understand "Sasara" by twisting it around their necks and waists. The 4 years old children shook "Patica" in various ways, and they considered "Sasara" as a snake. They made a company to play together through the medium of novel toys. The children of 5 years old ringed "Patica" as a bell of a bakery and a signal of a march, and they also insisted to use "Sasara" in turn.
