Abstract
In this paper I make it my chief aim to describe the dialects of the three localities, Magome, Niekawa, Kamiwada which are parts of Shinshū in the Nakasendō Area. The results obtained are as follows: 1) In the phonetic field In Magome I recognized the inclination of the sentence-end-rising intonation and the distinctive features of the pitch accent of the three or four words, which were not found out in other parts. 2) In the grammatical field Only in Kamiwada I recognized well the common language character in the various expressions, the honorifix, and the sentence-final particles. 3) In the field of vocabulary The vocabulary of the personal pronoun seemed to be, on the whole, characteristic in the three localities. I In future, I will promote the study of the dialect of the Chūbu District in detail comparing the dialect of the Nakasendō. Area, Tōkaidō Area, Hokurikudō Area with that of so called dialectal Borderline Area of the Itoigawa-Hamanako.
