Cooperation between Peace Enlightenment by Local Governments and School Education

The peace policy that local governments perform is authorized by the budget request and approval in the assembly. I study an association between peace enlightenment by local governments and peace education in schools.
There are a lot of local governments that declare non-nuclear weapon policy. The declaration ratio is considerably high with 85% among local governments in Japan, but the ratio of the local governments joining the National Council of Japan Nuclear Free Local Authorities is low with 17%. This paper considers peace policies of the local government which declare non-nuclear weapon. Firstly, this paper clarifies the situation of peace policies of the local governments. Secondly, it considers the cooperation between peace enlightenment by local governments and peace education in schools.
This paper found some tendencies of the positive local governments for peace policy. 1) Many of them declare peace declaration such as non-nuclear weapon declaration. 2) They have peace regulations or peace laws. 3) Some of them have peace monetary foundation. 4) They have peace museums. 5) They have positive local governments in nuclear free policy in their neighborhood.
The peace policy by local governments is available in school education. For the peace enlightenment policy targeted for school children, there are four types such as a hold type, an offer type, a dispatch type, and a support type. The pupils and students in schools attend peace meeting and they apply for the peace contests by local governments. School teachers can use the materials for peace education which local governments have produced. It can be said that it is effective to deepen the cooperation between peace enlightenment by local governments and peace education in schools.
