So-called Johasho is an early annotated edition of Genjimonogatari, which is a verbatim note of Sanjonishi Kineda's lecture put down by Satomura Joha, is commonly a twenty-volume book in twenty parts. While handed down in manuscript, the book was published in wood-block letters during the Kanei era in the early Edo period, later reprinted from a wood block, and spread among people. Hiroshima University Library has a collection of Johasho in twenty parts. On the inside cover of every part, we find the name of the former owner. The first part of the book has marginal notes or interlineations in almost all the pages. In this article, we surveyed the manuscripts and the editions of Johasyo, and then reported that the Ganshoji temple, the old owner of the book, exists in Maki-machi, Niigata prefecture and that the annotations found in the book mostly coincide with those in Sairyusho.
