The purpose of this study was to clarify the pathways through which the perceptions and behaviours of child care practices are transformed when kindergarten teachers have experienced raising their own children. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with four kindergarten teachers who had children, and the data was analyzed using TEM. The results revealed three things: 1) The experience of raising their own children under the age of three enabled them to better understand parents by empathizing with their perspectives and the current condition of child-rearing; 2) Through contact with various people as parents, the kindergarten teachers became aware of the different ways of thinking and seeing as parents, and reaffirmed the importance of seeing each child as an individual. 3)Interaction with their younger colleagues prompted the kindergarten teachers who had experienced child-rearing at home to reflect on their child care practices. By doing so, they were able to understand that being close to the parents’ feelings would lead to being close to the children’s feelings.
