A Review of the Research into Higher Education Evaluation in China
The purpose of this paper is to review existing studies on the evaluation of undergraduate education in China and to identify challenges taking place in this earlier research. The literature which is reviewed in the paper includes main research papers, book chapters and other reports about the evaluation of undergraduate education in Chinese universities which were published from the 1980s to 2015. Although all these earlier studies were all published in the Chinese language, the review of them will be helpful and relevance to further understanding of the evaluation of undergraduate education in China in the historical and comparative perspectives.
The first section briefly introduces earlier studies of university evaluation in China and discusses the current status of the research into the evaluation of undergraduate education by journal types in historical perspective. The second section focuses on research issues and trends of the evaluation of undergraduate education by topic. The final section concludes by summarizing major challenges to the research into the evaluation of undergraduate education in China and the ideal method of carrying out the research in this regard.
