西日本でどのような水生動物が釣り餌として流通されているのかについて,2009年12月～2011年8月の期間に市場調査をおこなった。釣り具店で販売されている商品として,多毛類,ユムシ類,ホシムシ類,二枚貝類,甲殻類および魚類など少なくとも27種が確認できた。これらの釣り餌動物は,1)国外から輸入されている非在来種(≧4種),2)国外から輸入されている在来種(18種),3)国内流通されている外来種(2種),および4)国内流通のみされている在来種(3種)の4タイプに分けられた。

Market research was performed between December 2009 and August 2011 to investigate the current state of aquatic animals sold as bait for sport fishing in Western Japan. At least 27 species of bait—including nine polychaetes, one echiuran, one sipunculan, three bivalves, at least ten crustaceans, and three fishes—were sold at fishing bait shops in Osaka and Hiroshima prefectures. These animals were divided into four types: 1) non-native species imported from foreign countries (at least four species), 2) native species imported from foreign countries (eighteen species), 3) invasive species supplied in Japan (two species), and 4) native species supplied only in Japan (three species).
