abstract | Bhoja (11th c.), the king of Dhārā, is the author of the Śṛṅgāraprakāśa, a memorable work on poetics. Raghavan (1978, 741) has already pointed out that Bhoja makes reference to Dharmakīrti in four places in the Śṛṅgāraprakāśa. Among them, in chapters 7 and 9 of this text Bhoja cites the Pramāṇavārttika, Pratyakṣa, k. 37 (PV 3.37) to discuss the metaphorical use of words as in the utterance agnir mānavakaḥ 'The boy is fire'. In this paper I shall consider Dharmakīrti's contribution to Sanskrit poetics.
