abstract | Shimai in The Book of Songs is frequently mentioned in the ancient books and records of the pre-Qin period. However, its meaning has not been accurately explained. This paper provides a new interpretation of the song. It argues that Shimai was written by the Duke of Zhou just after defeating the Shang Dynasty, and was used in the sacrificial ceremony to tell the God about this success and decide upon the implementation of new policies.
