abstract | This study examines the adult attachment style and internal working model related to Bowlby's attachment theory (1973/1991). Several studies have investigated the relationship between attachment and social anxiety. However, this study investigates the relationship between not only attachment style and trait social anxiety but also specific attachment style and anxiety for specific others, specifically close friends and acquaintances. This was founded on the hypothesis that there are other models of specific others and general internal working models. Using scales, [Remark 1] we investigated general attachment style, rated anxiety about others, and allowed subjects to direct these toward specific others to investigate particular attachment style and social anxiety. Then, using multiple regression analysis, we discovered that this internal working model influences anxiety about specific others only in the case of a close friendship, which suggested that the specific model is shaped during the process of becoming close to friends.
