Disputes about Standards for Music Education in Germany: Focusing on the Articles of Musik und Bildung

The aim of this study is to clarify the point at issue about standards in music education field in Germany from 2002, when KMK resolved to make standards of main subjects.
Surveying carefully music educational magazine Musik und Bildung issued from 2002 onwards, the main points of the disputes ware clarified as follows. Described standards should be limited to the core contents that function as minimum standards in order that each of schools may make up music education autonomously as the need depending on the situation of each school.
As a result of disputes about standards in music education in the early stages where KMK announced standards, music educators tried to improve music education in quality essentially through recognizing necessity of theoretical and pragmatic investigation in music educational context for developing standards for music education.
