The purpose of this paper is to analyze the information of "sewing with the cloth" in home economics education of Japan mainly from the latest course of study of elementary school (2008) revised by ministry of education, culture, sports, science and technology, to investigate thoroughly the educational significance of the learning process, and to research the problems. In the present course of study, home economics education has a new role to solve the problems concerning family and family life, food, consumption and environmental issues that the modern Japanese society suffers from. The objects is to place a great deal of association of self, family and community life, to have lifetime perspective and to develop skills and practical attitude for making better life. For that purpose, the boarders of three educational levels, elementary, junior high and senior high school, were clearly stated. And the contents were systematized with consistency. The educational significance of "sewing with the cloth" was seen as ① experience for considering all the various factors together of learning to get the ability brought up in home economics education, and ② chance to acquire the basic skills and technique. Both of 2 significances are essential to accomplish the object of home economics education. However it is very difficult that we bring results in both profiles in the time frame of present curriculum. Now home economics teachers have need to lead in becoming aware of learner about not "what do you make?", but "which skills do you acquire to what end?"
