abstract
We planned to make a new teaching program to which the sedimentary facies analysis is applicable. Sedimentary facies is defined by the feature of grain size, fossils, and sedimentary structure. The mode of facies analysis is as the following procedures. At first sedimentary layering is subdivided into constituent facies, and then facies of the strata are correlated with facies of the modern deposits for the estimation of depositional sedimentary environment. Sedimentary facies analysis was applied in investigating sedimentary environment of the Quaternary Saijo Formation in the Saijo and Kurose basins and their surrounding areas. Experience of procedure of facies analysis is expected to be a basis of knowledge and ability of the searching activities in science learning.
