abstract | This report aims to indicate challenges and future possibilities for Eco-City planning in terms of the role of organic solid waste management in developing countries. Eco-City, which seeks to reduce garbage and energy consumption, and recycle and reuse waste, has attracted our attention as a concept for sustainable urban development. Awareness of the concept of Eco-City planning is increasing in municipalities or cities in developing countries with rising environmental concerns. Among municipalities or cities in developing countries implementing Eco-City projects, Namakkal in India and Surabaya in Indonesia have played advanced roles in organic waste management, which is considered a part of the Eco-City program. The two cities have successfully achieved their goals with a community-oriented approach, although they face budget constraints in the same way as most cities in developing countries.
