abstract | The purpose of this paper is to consider problems a Teaching Assistant System has in Japan and suggest an attempt to overtake them. In the last two decade, employment opportunities for university teachers are likely to decrease due to the falling birthrate and the budget cut to higher education etc. in Japan. Consequently, most of the newly conferred Ph.D. graduates will face a huge challenge in finding jobs in research universities. This reality makes it all the more important that universities pay greater attention to the development of graduate students as effective teaching assistants today to be excellent university teachers in the future. In the first half, through comparing Japan and the U.S. we have considered features a T. A. System has in Japan. From the considering we have showed a T. A. System in Japan has four problems. That is 1) the work with T. A. prevents graduate students from researching,2) while they have opportunities to develop a teaching ability as T. A., it doesn't come true,3) they can't receive an enough salary for financial support,4) they are not appreciated socially. Next, to overtake their problems and seek an improvement strategy we have analyzed our attempt.
