Abstract
In Modern Greek there are two verbs of movement, i.d. piyeno, erchome, whose usage is not concerned with the semantics of the method of movement, but rather with the deictic center of the speaker.

The purpose of this article is to examine various examples in the hope of finding out the conditions under which each verb is used.

A few, but decisive, differences between these verbs and the corresponding verbs in Japanese (iku, kuru) are also pointed.
