A checklist and bibliography of the parasites of Manila clams (Ruditapes philippinarum) of Japan (1906-2012)

The Manila clam or the Japanese little-neck, Ruditapes philippinarum (Adams & Reeve, 1850), is one of the most important commercial clams in Japan. Based on the literature published between 1906 and 2012, information on the parasites of Manila clams from Japan is assembled. A total of 18 nominal species of the following protistan and metazoan parasites have been reported: Dinozoa (2 species), Ciliophora (1), Polycladida (1), Trematoda (3), Pantopoda (1), Copepoda (7) and Decapoda (3). Information on the parasites not identified to species level is also given, including those of Dinozoa, Cercozoa, Trematoda, Cestoda, Copepoda and Decapoda. Since the mid-1980s, the stock abundance of Manila clams has greatly declined in Japanese waters, and this decline almost corresponds to the import of the species from China, North and South Korea. It is thus desirable to clarify the parasite fauna of imported Manila clams and evaluate the impact of the parasites, especially pathogenic Perkinsus species, on the host populations.

アサリはわが国で水産上重要な貝類の1種である.本目録は,1906～2012年に出版された文献に基づき,日本産アサリから記録された18種の寄生生物(渦鞭毛虫類2種,繊毛虫類1種,ヒラムシ類1種,吸虫類3種,ウミグモ類1種,カイアシ類7種,十脚類3種)と未同定の寄生生物(渦鞭毛虫類,ケルコゾア類,吸虫類,条虫類,カイアシ類,十脚類)の情報(異名リスト,宿主,寄生部位,地理的分布,文献)を種ごとに整理したものである.1980年代半ばから日本のアサリ漁獲量は急減し,この減少は中国や北朝鮮などからのアサリの輸入とほぼ時期を同じくしている.輸入アサリの寄生生物相を明らかにし,特に病原性のあるパーキンサス属原虫がアサリ資源に与える影響を評価する必要がある.
